How I lost over 100lbs - Part 1 - It's all in your head
Before you start anything or set out to lose weight you have to have a healthy mind. I started and failed many times from 2000 to 2017 because my head wasn't in the right place. In 1994 I was involved in a altercation in Ottawa, Ontario and was stabbed thirteen times.
This incident resulted in severe PTSD which I hid from my friends and family for years. I used to go to the bar five to six nights a week and I wouldn't have one or two drinks I was drinking by the picher to escape anxiety and panic attacks.
For those few hours every night I don't remember all my worries were gone until I woke up the next day.
A close friend of mine sat me down one night at 01:45 after last call with a giant pot of coffee and two mugs and looked me straight in the eye and said "IF you don't smarten the f*** up you're not going to see age 50"
I don't drink to escape anymore and I have probably had six beer in the last year and they're for enjoyment. I'm not saying you have to go cold turkey if you're going through anything but it can be controlled.
This friend of mine passed away on my birthday a few years ago. To me that will stick with me as every year on my birthday if I have thoughts of going back I'll never forget that conversation I had with her at the pub that night.
So before starting anything take a deep look at yourself and figure out why you are doing this? You need to find your reason.
I caved and got help for my PTSD in 2014 after I found out I was going to be a father. PTSD can cause temper issues and I wanted to get that cleared up before my little girl came in to my life.
She is now eight years old and when she was four she wanted to race me home from the park. Due to being almost 400lbs and the injuries in my leg I had to say no. The look of sadness in her eyes lite a fire under me like never before.
In March of 2021 I was interviewed by Jill Croteau from Global News Calgary

These days me and my girl we race all the time, we workout together and the best thing is when I take her to play centers I don't have to watch from the couches and tables anymore. Her smile is worth every second of hard work.
